Madeleine is a newly qualified flute teacher graduating from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in July 2024. She studied under Sarah Newbold and Matthew Featherstone (Principal Flute, BBC National Orchestra of Wales), whose teaching philosophies have shaped her own approach.
Her teaching centres on curiosity, resilience and the joy of asking questions. She has worked extensively in musical outreach, delivering large-scale flute classes, one-to-one tuition and ensemble guidance to primary and secondary school pupils.
As a performer, Madeleine has played flute and piccolo with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera and Ensemble 360. She was a semi-finalist in the RWCMD Concerto Competition, runner-up in the All Flutes Plus prize, and won the RWCMD chamber prize with her wind quintet RHISM. Her repertoire spans baroque, contemporary and world music, and she loves encouraging students to explore the styles and pieces that genuinely interest them.
Madeleine has a deep connection to Devizes. She participated in the Devizes Eisteddfod from age six onwards and was named Runner-up Young Musician of Wiltshire. Returning to teach in her hometown allows her to give back to the musical community that shaped her early musicianship.
She teaches flute and piccolo to all levels and is happy to discuss repertoire, performance goals and what you’re hoping to get from lessons.
